Na het Nederlandstalige album Spijt Is Iets Voor Later uit 2021 keert de band met It Is What It Is terug naar het Engels, iets wat bij Racoon uitstekend naast elkaar kan bestaan, zo blijkt ook keer op keer tijdens de talloze liveshows die Racoon jaarlijks geeft. Van It Is What It Is zijn inmiddels de singles Nickel For Goodbye, It’s You Or Me en The Ones We Seek verschenen. Op nieuwe album horen we invloeden terug uit de West Coast pop uit de jaren ’70 en voert het samenspel van gitaristen Dennis Huige en Maarten van Damme de boventoon, maar It Is What It Is is vooral Racoon ten voeten uit. Elf sfeervolle popliedjes met een akoestische ondertoon en gepassioneerde zang die gaan over vertrouwen, vriendschap, verleiding, troost, ouderschap, opvoeden, lotsacceptatie en zelfrelativering. Natuurlijk deelt zanger Bart van der Weide in zijn teksten weer zijn levensfilosofieën: ‘Op een gegeven moment ben je hartstikke blij met je rust en je regelmaat en de plek waar je bent in je leven en heb je helemaal geen zin in al dat onrustige gezeik. De drang naar iets anders wordt ook gewoon ineens een stuk minder, want de jaren vliegen echt voorbij. Nu wij onze plaat It Is What It Is hebben genoemd, valt ons pas op, hoe vaak mensen dat zeggen, in welke taal dan ook. Zo is het. ‘t Giet zoals ‘t giet. Je moet roeien met de riemen die je hebt. No use crying over spilled milk.’ It Is What It Is is verkrijgbaar en op LP, CD en als limited edition deluxe vinyl boxset met daarin ook de LP Live In Rotterdam en vier exclusieve fotoprints.
