Deze muziekwedstrijd werd met afstand gewonnen door het koor waarin zowel Luciano als zijn vader zong. Later beschouwde Pavarotti dit als een cruciaal moment in zijn leven, waardoor hij een carrière als professioneel zanger begon te overwegen. Veertig jaar later, in 1995, kwam hij een belofte na die hij zichzelf en vele anderen gedurende zijn buitengewone carrière had gedaan: hij keerde terug naar Llangollen om een heel bijzonder concert te geven.
